They didn't set out to catch any snakes (or wrestle them), And this happened a LONG time ago (he died in 1987 for Christ's sake). He is one of the most famous film makers in Sweden ever, nobody had ever seen a rain forrest in color on TV before he went and filmed it, and he's a big role model for Attenborough and many others. He did a LOT for nature awareness before anyone else had given it a second thought (or you complaining ppl were even born).

The way he described it in one of his books, it was real but not planned. They had released an anaconda that they were going to film but the conditions weren't right so they had to re-capture it. It tried to escape while they waited for the third guy to return with a large sack to keep it in (the box was broken), and Jan tried to stop it. Because of an incident a few weeks earlier, the camera guy was under strict orders that "when the camera is rolling, it's rolling; I'll be fine!"
