He wasn't supposed to mend stone - and Merida wasn't supposed to mend the tapestry. They were supposed to mend the bonds they severed or damaged (The Prince severed his bond with his brothers when he fought over the kingdom and Merida damaged her bond with her mother when she broke custom by competing in the games and saying she doesn't want to get married and arguing with her).

In "Brave" some of the character's do have specific songs they sing: Queen Elinor sings "Noble Maiden Fair" with Merida. And Merida sings, albeit offscreen, "Touch the Sky".
